Information for Farmworker Communities and Organizations interested in hosting a CMFN Immersion Group.

CMFN encourages communities where migrant farmworkers live and work to host a group of young adults for a one-week immersion experience. This is a chance to educate participants about the lived reality of migrant farmworkers and rural immigrants, and to deepen their understanding of the social justice issues facing your community. Invite them to share in your daily activities, tell them your stories and act in solidarity with them through activism or direct service work.

As a CMFN Immersion Host Community you will form a team of local leaders to work with CMFN staff to coordinate housing in the community for the group of participants, arrange for local transportation, and plan activities for each day of the visit. The visiting group, with support from CMFN, will cover all expenses during the immersion. Host communities are never asked to pay to host a group, and will be reimbursed for any expenses incurred during the week.

Visiting participants may or may not speak Spanish. They often choose to visit because they are interested in learning about another language and culture. CMFN believes that immersion visits a great opportunity for respectful cultural exchange and a chance for everyone to practice their language skills. When needed, CMFN staff or board member will provide interpretation and translation during the week.

An immersion participant with a hosting farmworker.Immersion trips can take place throughout the year, but the most common times are during January, March and October when colleges and universities in the U.S. have  week long breaks.

CMFN is seeking communities of migrant farmworkers and/or rural immigrants whose members are open to hosting a visiting group and spending time with the participants. Please contact us to inquire about hosting a group in your community!

CMFN staff will work to match interested host communities with interested groups to create positive, mutually beneficial experiences.
